AZADI KA AMRUT MAHOTSAV CELEBRATION BY INDIAN COAST GUARD REGION (WEST)

Indian Coast Guard Region (West) joined the Nation today in commemoration of 75th anniversary celebrations of Indian Independence. The celebration to mark this historic occasion commenced this morning in the Western Region units of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep Islands.

The Coast Guard Officers and men from ships and shore establishment joined Community Interaction Programme to sensitise the fishing community taking along the various stake holders including Coastal Police, Fisheries etc. The Community Interaction Programme was held at 24 places in the Western Region which included 07 fishing villages in Maharashtra (Worli Koliwada, Vashi Village, Jaigad, Karla Village, Borli Village, Dahanu Village and Bhaucha Dhakka), 02 fishing hamlet of Goa [Malim Jetty (Bardez) and Matvem, Canacona], 03 fishing village in Karnataka (Thota Bengre Fishing Village Mangalore, Bunder Fishing Village Old Port Mangalore and Mudga Fishing Village Karwar) 09 fishing villages in Kerala (Arthunkal, Thaikal Beach, Chetny Harbour, Pollathai FLC, Poovar, Vizhinjam, Adimalithura, Elathor and Beypore) and 03 Islands of Kavaratty, Androth and Minicoy.

Various aspects of safety and security at sea, Demonstration of life saving equipment, importance and necessity of group fishing, use of DATs, introducing unsung heroes, Independence struggle and sacrifices made by brave son of the soil and importance of celebrating “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav” was deliberated upon, besides sensitizing fishermen about their role as eyes and ears of the Coastal Security construct.
