GOA LOK SABHA ELECTIONS 2024

Election

The stage is prepared for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the coastal state of Goa, as the electoral drumbeat reverberates throughout the state. Goa’s political scene, which has historically been controlled by national parties like the BJP and Congress, has seen a noticeable change with the advent of regional actors, which has complicated the electoral dynamics.

The BJP and Congress each won one seat in Goa in the most recent Lok Sabha elections, highlighting their long-standing supremacy. However, the 2024 Goa Lok Sabha Elections are anticipated to not only determine the political course of the state but also possibly have an impact on the national landscape due to growing anti-incumbency sentiments and the growing influence of regional parties like the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and the Goa Forward Party.
Due to the state’s small number of Lok Sabha seats, the Goa Lok Sabha Elections 2024, scheduled for May 7, will only be held in one phase. Goa consists of two parliamentary seats, North Goa and South Goa, where there has traditionally been fierce political rivalry between national parties like as the Congress and the BJP. The BJP strengthened its hold on the state as it won both North and South Goa in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
But the list of contenders for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, which has well-known politicians fighting for votes, represents the long-running struggle between the BJP and Congress. In the North and South Goa seats, the BJP has named Shripad Yesso Naik and Pallavi Shrinivas Dempo as its delegates; the Congress will be represented in the same areas by former government minister Ramakant Khalap and retired Indian Navy Capt. Viriato Fernandes.

The BJP, Congress, and new regional parties have their work cut out for them as Goa gets ready for yet another political confrontation. The results of the Lok Sabha Elections in 2024 will establish the state’s representation in the federal Parliament and act as a gauge of the political climate in the state as it changes
