GOAN SEAMEN ASSO TO URGE MPT FOR RESTORATION OF ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CHAPEL FOR SEAFARERS, WORKERS TO PRAY

The Goan Seamen Association of India will urge the MPT to restore the St. Francis Xavier Chapel in the Old Palace Building at the Mormugao Harbor. The GSAI will request the MPT to let the seafarers and workers pray at the Chapel.

The GSAI attended the eucharistic mass and traditional litany at the chapel recently. GSAI said that globally at most ports around the world Seafarers are always at distress and some also suffer from depression. Vessels can have incidents ranging from grounding, breakdown, abandonment, etc and at such times Seafarers that come ashore look for spiritual guidance, comfort and shelter.St. Francis Xavier Chapel at Old Palace Bldg Mormugao Harbour Goa was once a place to be visited for lots of seafarers. 

“GSAI will request and urge the MPT authorities to look into the Chapel in its jurisdiction which was once a favorite place for Seafarers and port workers in times of distress to seek blessings leaving aside caste, creed, and religion to restore its old glory and splendor” President of GSAI Frank Viegas informed.
