Bollywood actress Dia Mirza who is a UN (United Nations) Environment Goodwill Ambassador and also the Ambassador of Wildlife Trust of India shared a story on her official Instagram page with the hashtag save Mollem.
The move of the Central Government to grant diversion of 120 hectares of Mollem forest land for the South Western Railway (SWR) Railway double-tracking project has received criticism from several quarters. Not just common Goans and NGO’s but even Bollywood celebrities have joined in sharing the #savemollem hashtag.
The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) three days ago have approved the diversion in-principle. A sizeable amount of the forest cover has already been cleared.
