Goa Shack Owners Welfare Society (SOWS) requested the State government to take an action over extending the validity of beach shack licenses by two years in view of losses they incurred during the last three seasons. The three-year validity of the beach shack policy ended in May this year and all the shack allottees now need to renew their licenses for the next three years.

SOWS secretary John Lobo opened up that, “We have had two thoroughly bad seasons and many of us are still unable to recover the losses. It costs approx. 1 Lakh to set up a shack. In addition to this we also need to pay various fees to Government. Instead of this, waiters who work for shacks at Calangute, Candolim, and Baga beach demands a commission on the bills raised. Thus, an extension to beach shack licenses would be a big relief to all of them.”
