The Former Chief Minister of Goa Digambar Kamat has claimed that he had to give ‘Agnipariksha’ (tested in fire) in the mining case of Goa even after not being indicted by any authority in the case. He was speaking on the Lokayukta report on renewal of 88 mining leases case under the erstwhile Laxmikant Parsekar Government.

Digambar Kamat said “Law of the Land needs to be respected by all in Letter and Spirit” while adding “Every action has a reaction. I was not indicted by any authority, but was forced to pass through “Agnipariksha”. Truth always prevails and hence everyone should co-operate and put forth their say before the concerned authorities” said the Former Chief Minister Kamat.

“I have always believed that vindictive actions dont work for long. One has to look at every matter judiciously” Digambar said, adding that the law of the land needs to be respected by all in Letter and Spirit. “I have not read the report as yet. The Lokayukta himself has powers under the act to initiate action stated Digambar Kamat while reacting to the report submitted by Goa Lokayukta to Governor of Goa on renewal of mining leases” he said.
