South Goa Forest Division in a raid conducted On 4/3/2021 seized wild animals and birds at “Velorians By the River” open air hall, Varca.
Range Forest Office mobile Squad, Margao received information about illegal captivity and display of wild animals and birds in an open Air Hall at Palkutt Varca.
Accordingly Sh. Vishal V.Surve, SDFO Quepem, Sh. Prakash Naik, RFO Mobile Squad & Staff of Mobile squad Range Margao under guidance of Sh. Anil Shetgaonkar DCF South, executed an search operation in the premises of Velorians By the River, Open Air Hall at Palkutt Varca and managed to successfully recover wild animals and Birds. Details of seized live animals and birds are as follows:-
1) 1 no. White Bellied Sea Eagle
2) 1 no. Malabar Gaint Squirrel
3) 1 no. Black Kite
4)7 nos. Plum Headed Parakeet
5)1 no.Vernal Hanging Parrot
6) 12 nos Black Headed Munia
7) 6 nos Rose Ringed Parakeet.
Above species are protected under Schedule I, II and IV of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Staff of the Open Air Hall involved in handling, Shifting and Hiding aforementioned wildlife are Arrested and Produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class III Additional Court, Margao. Where they were remanded into Judicial Custod till 14/03/2021. Names of the staff includes Sh. Nagraj Achari, Sh.Dinesh Kumar, Sh.Sameer Aaind, Sh.Soma Kandulna and Smt.Pyari Kerketta.
However the owners of said property were not found and Site and search for nabbing the accused is under progress. Seized Birds and Animals are successfully released in wild.
