People are troubled by the lateness of employees in government offices. But the Goa government has made a mood that now it will not allow this to happen in the state. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that strict action will be taken by the state government against those employees who come late to work and do not obey orders. Talking to reporters, Pramod Sawant also said that the Government Employees Union will be taken into confidence before taking action against such employees.

The State General Administration Department (GAD) had recently issued a memorandum. It said that they had received requests from various departments in the secretariat to replace some employees due to lax attitude towards office duties, disobedience of orders, frequent late arrivals, and absolutely no interest in learning.

The memorandum stated that following such requests, GAD shifted such employees to departments with lighter workloads. But even then, there performance was not found satisfactory. Now the cognizance of this has been taken by the GAD secretary. The appointing authority has decided to initiate strict action against the poor or non-performing employees.

The employees union had appealed to the Chief Minister not to take any action against government employees without taking them into confidence. The employees union has demanded that the government should conduct a thorough investigation into such incidents and take care that injustice is not done to anyone. The union said that such employees should be given at least three chances. At the same time, Chief Minister Sawant later clarified that this memorandum is not limited to employees of the Secretariat only. Rather it applies to all government offices.
