There is a huge danger looming over the five beaches of Goa. They are drowning in the sea. The reason is soil erosion. State Environment Minister Nilesh Kabral told this thing. He was replying to a question raised by independent MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco in the Assembly.

Nilesh said that Keri Beach in Pernem Taluka, Majorda, Mobor to Betul Beach in Salsette, Betalbatim Beach, Kanagini Beach in Quepem and Coco Beach in Bardez are in danger. Soil erosion is happening here continuously. These banks are getting washed away by the sea current, they are drowning.

Nilesh told that the Water Resources Department of the Government of Goa had asked the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) for its study. After which he gave the report in 2021. This study was done under the National Hydrology Project funded by the World Bank.

The Goa Coastal Management Environment Society has started work on the protection of beaches. He is in touch with an agency in the Netherlands. The society has called the experts of the agency to Goa so that they can come and do a preliminary study and tell how the beach can be saved.
