A session was conducted on the occasion of International Day For Yoga via video conferencing and was attended to by all police officers and staff of south Goa district police stations.

The International Day for Yoga is celebrated annually on the 21st of June since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly. Yoga is internationally recognised for its holistic approach to health and well-being.

Policing has always been synonymous with long work hours and dealing with high-stress situations. This simply meant that police are left with very little time for exercising or indulging in activities that reduce stress. Yoga provides an easy way of incorporating a wellness regime into the hectic schedules faced by police on duty.

Shri Deepak Amonker, Principal of K.B Hegdewar Higher Secondary School, who is an experienced Yoga Teacher, conducted an informative yoga session for the police staff over video conferencing and provided them with guidance on the various facets and advantages of practicing Yoga. He further provided the police staff with many simple to perform yoga exercises that can be performed at anytime and without the need for any equipment. The police staff greatly appreciated the simplicity of the yoga exercises thought to them.

“Today’s society is beleaguered with conflicts, violence and ill health. Yoga could be one of the solutions, it has the potential to calm the mind, perpetuate peace and promote wellbeing. I urge everyone to incorporate yoga in their lives” South Goa SP Pankaj Kumar Singh informed.

The SP South asserted that having attended today’s session, police staff will be able to live healthier lives by incorporating yoga into their daily lives.
