Centre’s Report Urges Conservation of Breeding Tigress in Goa, Opposes Damming of Mhadei Rivers

A recent report from the Centre highlights the presence of a breeding tigers in the protected areas of Goa, emphasizing the importance of tiger conservation. The report also cautions against damming the rivers in the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary to ensure the preservation of these majestic creatures.

In a significant development, the high court of Bombay at Goa directed the Goa government to designate the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary and its surrounding areas as a tigress reserve on July 24. However, Goa’s forest minister, Vishwajit Rane, stated that the government intends to approach the Supreme Court to contest this order.

According to the report, adopting proactive management strategies and conservation measures can lead to a thriving tiger population in this landscape in the future. Preserving the habitat and safeguarding the rivers within the sanctuary can play a vital role in supporting the breeding tigress and enhancing tiger conservation efforts in Goa.
