Cdr Abhilash Tomy Declared ‘Yachtsperson of the Year’ by Yachting Association of India

The Yachting Association of India announced Cdr Abhilash Tomy (Retd) as the recipient of the prestigious Admiral RH Tahiliani Trophy for ‘Yachtsperson of the Year’ on Monday. Cdr Abhilash Tomy recently achieved a remarkable feat by completing a challenging solo circumnavigation as part of the Golden Globe Race, securing the second position in the competition. After retiring from the navy, Cdr Tomy has chosen Goa as his home and continues to pursue his adventurous spirit.

In recognition of outstanding performance in national and international sailing events, the Admiral Nadkarni Trophy for ‘Most Promising Yachtsperson of the Year’ was awarded to the talented teenager Adhvait Menon. Adhvait is currently undergoing training with the Indian Navy at INS Mandovi, showcasing great potential in the world of sailing.

Furthermore, the Yachting Association of India honored the crew of INS Tarini with the esteemed Admiral Ramdas Trophy. The crew recently returned from a successful expedition to Brazil. Comprising nine skilled naval officers, the team includes two remarkable women officers who have been shortlisted for the first-ever solo circumnavigation by an Indian woman. The members of the crew are Capt Atool Sinha, Cdr Nikhil Hegde, Cdr Abhishek Doke, Cdr MA Zulfikar, Cdr Divya Purohit, Lt Cdr Ashutosh Sharma, Lt Cdr Dilna K, Lt Cdr Roopa A, and SLt Aviral Keshav. Their achievements exemplify the spirit of excellence and determination in the field of yachting.
