There is good news for people going to Goa. Now Goa will get better air connectivity. Another airport may be operational in Goa in the next two months. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given a license to Mopa Airport. The airport is being built by GMR Company. Large aircraft will also be able to land at this airport being built on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. Goa already has an airport at Dabolim in Mormugao city.
The government is getting the construction of Mopa airport completed in four phases. In the first phase, the government aims to have an annual passenger capacity of 50 lakhs. In view of this, this airport is being prepared. The construction of the airport will cost Rs 3000 crore. Goa’s new airport is about 35 km from Panjim in the northern part. The test flight landed at Mopa airport on 5th September.
The tourism sector of Goa will be greatly benefited from the opening of Mopa Airport. With better air connectivity to Goa, a greater number of tourists will come to this beautiful state of the country. The economy of Goa mainly rests on tourism. Addressing the function on the occasion of the test flight landing on September 5, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that two lakh jobs would be created within two to three years with the construction of this airport.
