MMC COMES TO THE AID OF MARGAO HOMELESS

As the pandemic rages through Goa and in a bid to save the lives of people suffering from COVID and those who are homeless, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has identified around 100 homeless persons from the vegetable market and Gandhi market areas.

The Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes has appealed to Margao’s business community and Citizens to come forward to provide meals and other support to the homeless during this time of need.

“We have noticed these people have no homes and often have to sleep on the streets, hungry, due to the curfew they may not get food which they used to, hence we have decided to step in”, said Fernandes.

The MMC under the CO have been doing their bit along with Government efforts to ensure they reach out to Citizens and the needs of the city hoping cases will come down and those affected will be helped in some way of the other..

In yet another development NGO Goa Sudharop has expressed interest to provide free meals and free transport to the testing site to all the hospital in south Goa.

The Chief Officer along with opposition leader and Margao M also visited the Margao COVID centres and Manohar Parrikar stadium at Navelim to oversee the 25 bedded hospital with all Covid facilities.

Similarly Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardessai also inspected the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium at Fatorda along with the Chief Officer and his team and has proposed to the Collector to prequisition of both the sites along with one junior engineer, a junior electrical and civil engineer along with one plumber and one electrician at each place it is also reported that another proposal is sent to the government to set up the two COVID care centres 25 bedded each.

Also, in order to bolster the traditional summer Goan mango and other fruits, the MMC marked areas in the market for fruit sellers so as to sell the seasonal fruits by keeping safe distance.

A large amount of the summer specialty traditional Goan mango comes into the Margao market from various parts of Goa every morning.

The CO continues to appeal to citizens to maintain social distance, use masks and hand sanitisers and not to crowd the market while purchasing essentials within the Govt stipulated time in the larger interest of the public and business establishments.
