The Constituents of Nuvem have come together in opposing some of the works that have been planned in their constituency by the government. One project that has been strongly opposed is the proposed integrated garbage plant on the Loutolim-Verna plateau.

The Constituents of Nuvem in a press briefing said that no jetties should be built to handle coal.

“We want our living rivers back which have been nationalized for the commercial exploitation as mentioned in the Sagarmala Master plan which threatens us our traditional occupation such as agriculture, fishing and pisciculture. No to using roads or rail to transport Coal through our densely populated villages, endangering our heritage homes and structures” they demanded.

“We oppose the Major Ports bill which gives autonomy to MPT over all Governing bodies of the State of Goa. We do not want our natural Khazan and mangrove lands to be destroyed as it’s a vital zone for agriculture and natural breeding ground for endangered species 6. No Land acquisition and no to demolition of Ancestral heritage homes and homes of our wild animals for double tracking of SWR” demanded Ramiro Mascarenhas representing Nuvem Constituents.

The Nuvem Constituents said that missing Link has done irreparable damage to our natural aquifers and destruction of the Khazan land. The felling of over 1100 fruit bearing trees has already displaced indigenous wildlife and has caused economic loss to locals. So we ask you to stop the transportation of hazardous cargo like coal through our heritage villages further endangering the health of the locals” they demanded.

“No integrated waste management plant in Verna industrial Estate or the eco sensitive Plateau as it’s already over-burdened with industrial use of water and industrial waste which directly threatens our river Sal and river Zuari. The time has passed for verbal assurances as everyday there is rampant work going on at the double tracking by the SWR This work has to be stopped ASAP to save the tax payer from bearing additional cost that will go in vain” they reminded.

“We are not against the development nor against the government. We expect that as a competent and responsible Government who wants to get our country India into the list of developed countries, Prime Minister Modi and CM Pramod Sawant should know that these projects are going cause irreparable destruction eco-system, wildlife habitat and livelihoods. Worldwide, nations are changing direction and phasing out coal usage, due to its high pollution indicators therefore we ask you to plan a sustainable model of development which we will support whole heartedly” said Nuvem Constituents.
