The Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has requested the Governor of Goa and Government to postpone the Assembly Session and summon it after Easter. This has reference to the Hon’ble Goa Governor Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyariji summoning the 14th Session of the Seventh Legislative Assembly of Goa from March 24th, 2021 to April 12th, 2021.
Reginaldo has requested the Governor not to hold the said session in the Holy Week of 2021 which starts from Sunday 28th March 2021 leading to Holy Maundy Thursday (Last Supper of Jesus Christ on 1st April 2021), The Good Friday (Crucifixion of Lord Jesus Christ) on 2nd April 2021 and culminates on Easter Sunday(Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ) on 4th April 2021.
Reginaldo said that the Holy Week is very special for Christians on Lord’s Passion and it is observed by fasting and abstinence. If the Assembly Session is allowed during the Holy Week the sentiment of the Christian Community in the State of Goa will be hurt as they would not be able to take part in it.
He requested not to have the upcoming Assembly session in the Holy Week or to postpone the entire season after Easter 2021.
