The State Government of Goa announced a school holiday for children between Class I and VII for today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday). The decision made on priority as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted “extremely heavy rainfall” in some parts of Goa and issued a ‘red’ warning for Friday. State experiencing the highest rainfall of this season, Sanguem received 233.4 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours while Cancona received 213.8 mm.

The Director of Education Shailesh R Sinai Zingde issued a circular stating that, the safety of young children in elementary schools is important as Goa Centre predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall over the two districts. So, it is decided to declare holiday on 8th & 9th July, 2022 for the students from Std I to VII in the state of Goa. However, students of Std IX and X are exempted from above declaration.

CM Pramod Sawant also said, “Goa’s disaster management team is all set to handle the situation, but people also need to take precautions and do not get out of home if not necessary.”
