CBI team reaches Goa, probe begins in Sonali Phogat death case

A CBI team reached Goa from Delhi on Friday to investigate the death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat. Last month, Sonali Phogat died under mysterious circumstances. A senior official said the CBI team would visit Anjuna police station and other places related to the case in North Goa. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had ordered a CBI inquiry into Phogat’s death.

The officials of the investigating agency took all the relevant documents from the local police before starting their investigation. The team is expected to visit Curlies restaurant where Sonali Phogat was seen partying hours before her death and also the place where she was staying in Goa. The rooms booked by her are still sealed.

The CBI team can also take the two accused into custody after producing them in the Mapusa sessions court. A CBI team on Friday visited Sonali Phogat’s residence in Haryana and spoke to her family. The statement is yet to be recorded.
